Once your wiki is running, a few touches make it feel like your own. Nearly all of them live in one place — the Settings screen inside your wiki — where you change values in a form. There’s no code to write and no rebuild to wait for; a saved setting takes effect for the next reader. The full list of fields is in Site settings; here’s what you can actually do with them.
Name and tagline edit
Set the wiki’s name so it appears in the header and the browser tab, and a short tagline to sit beneath it. A clear name and a one-line description do a surprising amount to make a wiki feel established rather than improvised.
The look edit
Choose the defaults every visitor starts with:
- Style — Wikigit’s own clean look, or a Wiki style modelled on Wikipedia.
- Light or dark — or automatic, following each visitor’s device.
- Width and text size — comfortable defaults for your content.
These are starting points, not handcuffs. A reader can always override them for themselves; your settings just decide where everyone begins. (Per-page overrides are possible too — see Page settings.)
The home page edit
Your front page is the index page. Edit it like any other to welcome people and point them at your best content. There’s more on this in Organizing.
A custom web address edit
A new wiki lives at your-name.wikigit.org. To use a domain of your own — wiki.example.com, say — point it at your wiki with your domain provider and connect it in settings. Most providers make this a couple of clicks.
Languages edit
If your wiki will cover more than one language, turn on the ones you want here. Each page can then have versions in those languages, linked with a switcher for readers. The how and why is in Multilingual wikis.
