For what happens to an edit after you save, see [[editing-model|Editing model]].

Editing a Wikigit page is about as involved as editing a document. Open a page, click Edit, change what you want, and save. Nothing to install, nothing to learn first — if you can write an email, you can edit a wiki.

Make an edit edit

  1. On any page, click Edit — or the [edit] link next to a section to change just that part.
  2. Type your changes. A live preview beside the editor shows the finished page as you go, so you’re never guessing.
  3. Add a short summary of what you changed. It’s one line, and it’s what shows up in the page’s history for everyone who comes after.
  4. Save. You’ll see exactly what’s changing, side by side, before it goes live.

Whether it appears at once or waits for a quick review depends on the page and on your standing — that’s the editing model, and it’s nothing you have to think about while writing. Either way your work is saved and credited to you.

Your work is saved as you go edit

The editor keeps a draft in your browser automatically. Close the tab, lose your connection, come back tomorrow — the unfinished edit is waiting. You can also save named drafts to set a piece of work aside and pick it up later.

Editing one section edit

On a long page, use the [edit] link beside a heading to edit just that section. It keeps you focused on the part you’re changing and loads less at once, which is a real help on a phone or for a quick fix.

Creating a page edit

Use New page to start one: give it a name, optionally pick a starting layout — blank, a basic article, or a how-to — and write. The other common way is to follow a red link, which offers to create the page it points at. Writing the links first and filling in the pages they want is one of the most natural ways a wiki grows.

Undoing and going back edit

Nothing is ever truly lost, because every page keeps its full history.

  • History shows every past version, who made it, and when.
  • Compare any two versions to see precisely what changed.
  • Undo a single change, or restore an older version, in one click.

An undo is just another saved version, so going back never costs you the record of what happened.
