The admin area is the single place where you and your fellow maintainers run the day-to-day of a wiki. It’s visible only to maintainers, and it gathers the moderation tools into one dashboard so you’re not hunting for them across the site. You’ll find it at your wiki’s /admin address, or from the page tools when you’re signed in as a maintainer.
What’s in it edit
- Recent activity — a live feed of edits across the wiki, with the risky-looking ones flagged.
- Review queue — changes waiting for approval; see what each one does and accept it or set it aside.
- New pages — pages just created, so a newcomer’s first article gets a quick look.
- Protection — set which pages are locked, and to which level.
- Blocks — block or unblock a disruptive contributor, across the wiki or on specific pages.
- Editors — see who has trusted-editor standing, and grant or remove it.
- Auto-moderator — review anything the automatic vandalism check has undone, and tune it.
- Hidden items — manage names or versions you’ve hidden from public lists.
- Activity log — a complete, searchable record of every moderation action and who took it.
A typical routine edit
Most maintainers settle into a simple rhythm:
- Skim Recent activity for anything out of the ordinary.
- Clear the review queue — accept the good, set aside the rest.
- Welcome and check the new pages.
On a quiet wiki that’s a couple of minutes now and then. The flags and the auto-moderator absorb the obvious cases, so your attention goes to the edits that genuinely need a person. And because every action is logged, a team of maintainers always has a clear account of who did what.
