wikigit the open reference
Contents

Editing a Wikigit page is as simple as editing a document: open a page, click Edit, make your change, and save. There’s nothing to install and nothing to learn first — if you can write an email, you can edit a wiki.

Make an edit edit

  1. On any page, click Edit (or the [edit] link next to a section to change just that part).
  2. Type your changes in the editor. A live preview beside it shows how the page will look.
  3. Add a short summary of what you changed — it helps others follow the page’s history.
  4. Click to publish. You’ll see a side-by-side preview of exactly what’s changing before it goes live.

That’s it. Depending on your settings, the change either appears immediately or waits for a quick review (see Managing changes). Whoever made it is credited — by their name if they’re signed in, or by a nickname if they’re not.

Your work is saved as you go edit

The editor keeps a draft in your browser automatically, so if you close the tab or lose your connection, your unfinished edit is waiting when you come back. You can also save named drafts to set work aside and return to it later.

Editing one section at a time edit

For a long page, use the [edit] link beside a section heading. You’ll edit just that section, which keeps things focused — handy on the phone or for a quick fix.

Creating a new page edit

Use New page to start one. Give it a name, optionally pick a starting template (a blank page, a basic article layout, or a how-to guide), and write. A link to a page that doesn’t exist yet shows up in red — clicking it is another quick way to create that page.

Undoing and going back edit

Nothing is ever truly lost. Every page keeps its full history.

  • History shows every past version, who made it, and when.
  • Compare any two versions to see exactly what changed.
  • Undo a change, or restore an older version, in a click — the page simply goes back to how it was.

What happens when you save edit

  • If you’re trusted (or editing isn’t restricted), your change goes live right away.
  • If you’re new on a protected page, your change is submitted for review and a maintainer approves it. Either way, your work is saved and credited.

You’ll see a small progress indicator while it publishes, and then your change is on the page.
